Who We Serve
Our adult clients and their children live in Minneapolis south of Downtown. Some of the neighborhoods served include Stephens, Loring Park, and some residences in Downtown Minneapolis, East Isles, Kenwood and Lowry Hill.
- Gender split is very close to 50-50 men and women.
- Nearly 20% of our clients are seniors.
- Approximately 10% are under 18.
- Most working age adults work at least part-time.
There are a similar numbers of clients of Caucasian and African-American ancestory (40% + of each) with increasing numbers of Hispanic and small numbers of Asian, American Indian and other ethnic minorities.
Most adults and some at-risk youth have places to stay. These vary considerably with a sizable minority having limited facilities for food preparation. Some may have only a micro-wave or hot plate and limited refrigeration. Some need help on a monthly basis but many others just use the food shelf occasionally through the year or several times until their situation improves.
- 1 out of 6 schoolchildren in Minneapolis goes hungry daily.
- Groveland serves 2000 recipients a month.
- Nearly half of food shelf clients are working poor.
