Ways to Help

Our Current Needs:

  • Bags - paper or plastic. We use as many as 200 bags a day; that's a lot of bags. When donations lag, we purchase these at close to market rate.
  • Hygiene Items - Food Support (formerly Food Stamps) do not pay for non-food items. For clients on a tight budget, toilet paper, paper towels, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, sanitary napkins and other toiletries can be difficult to obtain. Unopened samples from hotels are welcome as well as household sizes.
  • Food - If you enjoy it, it's almost assured one of our clients will too. Items that are in short supply include canned meats, meat analog products (vegetarians), pre-packaged meals such as beef stew, hamburger helper, corned beef hash and the like. Gravy mixes, cereal, flour, sugar and boxed cakes are always welcome as well. Most opened items or partially used products cannot be distributed. If you have fresh fruit or meat donations, give us a call to see if we can accept them.
  • Household Appliances - Can openers, plates, glasses, cutlery and other household items are always needed and in short supply.
  • Computer - We could use computers both for the food shelf and to distribute to clients. We'd prefer at least 1 GHz with Windows XP or Mac OS.

Volunteer:

Volunteer needs change on a regular basis. Our current need is for assistance in picking up donations. This might include picking up breads and pastries on a regular schedule. It can also include being listed on an on-call list for special events pickups. We can also use help in delivering food to shut-ins. A car is necessary for this opportunity. If lifting is a concern, a food shelf employee or volunteer can be available to assist.
